The event honors the 60th anniversary of Project MAC, (Multiple Access Computer and Machine Aided Cognition) which catalyzed the establishment of an official computer science curriculum at MIT. The landmark initiative triggered a highly prolific era of computing research that led to the emergence of MIT's Laboratory for Computer Science (LCS) and the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Lab. The two powerhouses united in 2003, to form CSAIL.
"We felt it was fitting to create an event that honors the profound legacy of this institution and its global influence," said Daniela Rus, director of MIT CSAIL. "Assembling a premier global community to exchange ideas and delve into the complexity of AI, arguably the most transformative technology of our time, is the ideal tribute to the decades of MIT-led innovation that has paved the way for today’s advancements."
"Collaborating with Daniela Rus, CSAIL, and the exceptional researchers who are passionately exploring these pertinent topics, has enabled us to create a world-class event,” added John Werner, founder, Imagination in Action. “We are thrilled to share some of the most impressive AI initiatives with thousands of people on-site and globally through videos that will be accessible on our websites at the conclusion of the event.”
“We appreciate the opportunity for Forbes to partner with Imagination in Action and MIT CSAIL as we seek insight into how AI will not only impact media but also society at large,” said Mike Federle, CEO of Forbes. “Our focus is on finding innovative founders and start-ups that are creating applicable tools to drive efficiency and growth.”
